    • Students follow along as the teacher demonstrates some painting techniques on canvas board:
  • Cris-cross paint blending

  • Antique bottle painting techniques

    • Impressionist paintings are shown after the demonstration as examples of how the impressionist style became popular.

    Students are to design their own apothecary jars and antique bottle painting on a given canvas using techniques they learned. A trick of folding the paper drawing one half of the bottle, and cutting it out is demonstrated as well so students can easily get symmetrical bottle shapes. Experimentation with bottle shapes is also done at this time.

    Evaluation:
    2 points--Pleasing arrangement of bottles/objects
    2 points--Rough impressionistic brush strokes showing.
    3 points--Blended background (no flat colors)
    3 points--Highlights and shading and details on each bottle

    10 points total.
