Sculpted or Carved Object

The teacher demonstrates how he sculpts a portrait. (Click here for a video) (And click here to see how the sculpture in the video link above looks when it's nearly finished.) Hollowing out a carved object is also demonstrated in class.

Students are encouraged to bring in a 3-d object that they want to try to duplicate in clay. Having a model in front of them will make it a million times easier to sculpt that object.

Evaluation:
3 points -- 3-D, interesting from all angles
3 points -- Quality and details included (wrinkles, folds, etc.)
2 points -- Base integrated nicely
2 points -- Hollowed out properly (Show Teacher)
10 points total



Students also have the option of carving a generic Ball on a box. If they choose to do that the evaluation is as follows:
Evaluation:
3 points -- Neatness/clean
3 points -- Hollowed out correctly
4 points -- Accurate shape

10 points total
(After a little dry-time, students are shown how to cut a "pie" shape out of the back and how to hollow out the project.)
