Chalk Talk --Chalk Experience

Students are shown how easily chalk blends through a demonstration by the teacher. The teacher also illustrates how blending chalk can make drawings look 3-d. Students follow along making a sphere and a few random shapes. Next, the teacher demonstrates how to make a glowing light bulb on black paper. Students follow along as the teacher demonstrates.

Students are given a white square and a black square of paper and instructed to have fun and see what they can make with the chalk.

After a few minutes we discuss what worked well and what paper they liked best for chalk drawings.

Student fingers are messy and so are the tables to a certain extent so we clean up by having each table take turns washing their hands. Then they take the damp paper towel that they dried their hands with and use it to wipe down their spot on the table.
