Double Apple Painting

Students watch as the teacher demonstrates how to paint a realistic apple in front of class based on a real apple sitting nearby.

After the demonstration an explanation of abstract art is given including some visual examples.

Students are to paint a realistic apple on one half of the paper and an abstract apple that conveys a feeling/meaning on the other half.

Evaluation:
Realistic apple:
2 points -- good composition
3 points -- accurate depiction of the apple (Good shape, realistic highlights, shadows, colors)

Abstract apple:
1 point -- background integrated into the painting
2 points -- color choices reflect and convey feeling
2 points -- painting style reflects and conveys feeling
