T-Shirt Design

One of the most effective promotional materials are wearable ads. We see this everywhere we go in the designs printed on T-Shirts, Caps, coats, and uniforms.

Graphic Design students are able to use our equipment to make designs that can be "printed" onto T-Shirts or other material.

Some T-Shirt designs are shown in class as inspiration. A short video, by Rhet and Link is shown as well.

The teacher demonstrates the following steps:

1. Make a new Illustrator file 13 inches wide by 12 inches tall and create a design that includes text and a graphic on it.
2. Ensure the design is "cutable" by clicking on "View" in the menu bar and selecting "Outline". If there are overlapping lines, your design is not "cutable". (See example here.) If necessary, fix your design to make it "cutable".
3. If you want to see how your design will fit on a t-shirt, download the T-Shirt illustrator template, open it in Illustrator and paste your design onto it. Resize as necessary then copy and paste it back into your original Illustrator file.
4. Reverse your design so the image will read correctly: Click on "Object" in the menu bar and choose "Transform > Reflect..." (Screen shot here)
5. Save your design as an illustrator file with your name on it and turn it in.

Evaluation:
2 points -- Graphic and text included
2 points -- Quality of Text and Graphic.
3 points -- Design is "cutable".
3 points -- Followed directions, including Saved as an Illustrator file with your last name.
