This lesson builds off the first painting exercise that we did in First Grade.
Some pictures of interesting fish are shown then a brief lesson on fish anatomy is given. As the teacher draws fish parts, students follow along drawing small fish on their paper.
Large paper is given to each student and they are allowed to draw their own fish with crayons. Scales are drawn with crayon for texture.
On the second day the teacher demonstrates more watercolor techniques, after which the students color their fish with watercolor paints (appropriate, isn't it? --Fish, watercolor). Where the students drew and colored fish scales the watercolor is repelled from the wax crayon leaving an interesting texture on the fish skin.
Students will cut the fish out and attach them to a large piece of colored butcher paper to be hung in the hall.
