Grading Procedures

Assignments are always made to reinforce the lesson being taught. After a time of lecture/demonstration/practice, students are given an evaluation form prior to starting the assignment. Each evaluation form includes the exact items they should work on in each assignment and point values for each item. See the sample evaluation form below:

Free Choice Painting

Evaluation:

2 points -- background included
2 points -- composition and center of interest
3 points -- appropriate subject matter for the time allotted
3 points -- blending to form three dimensionality

10 points total

All assignments are posted our our website at: www.lhsart.org/current.html. Students and parents may refer to that page at any time to see examples and evaluation forms for each project we do in class.

Cheating Policy:
Students caught cheating on an assignment or project will loose credit for that project.

Extra Credit:
The possibility of earning extra credit in all art classes is always available. I will award up to 5 points for each extra credit assignment turned in. Extra credit must relate to the class. Drawings should be done for extra credit in drawing class, Photographic work in Photography, etc.

Because over the course of a quarter students earn only 100 points, a limit of 15 extra credit points may be earned each quarter. Usually students will receive 2-3 points for their extra credit work. (Over the years only four students have earned 5 points for a single extra credit assignment. To get 5 on an extra credit means they've gone above and beyond the scope of the class.)

Character and Effort:
In addition to the above grades, students will receive a "character/effort" grade based on how they perform in class. This grade will help those who struggle with the art skills.
