Karen was excited when, the first week of summer, my Dad and I started sheetrocking the basement stairs. She's been patiently waiting years for those stairs to look finsihed. As an artist I find that sometimes it's beneficial to step away from a project for a time, then come back to it with a fresh eye. --Which means,
that project still isn't finished. The good news is that the stairs finally, after over 12 years of living here, don't squeak anymore.
Speaking of projects that aren't quite done, the image here (click it to see a larger version) was colored by Quinn. She meticulously colored each "pane of glass" with colored pencils yesterday afternoon. Karen was amazed at how long she stuck with it. But eventually it must have gotten to her because she decided that the rest of the window should be purple. I was impressed with how a 3 year-old was able to color inside the lines so well.
The other kids are getting more and more involved with activities outside the family. Therese (6) is singing a duet in the St. Philip's School Christmas Program. Click her picture to listen to her sing.
Anissa (8) is learning how to play the piano and you can hear her by clicking on her in the picture to the right. She also was recently trained as an altar server and is so enthusiastic about it that she will go to two Masses every weekend just to see if she might get to sub for a server who hasn't shown up.
Theo (10) joined basketball this year. Karen caught the end of his first practice when she picked him up. In the car she said, "You'll do great but you need to work on dribbling the ball when you're moving." To which he replied, "It would have been nice if you told me that
before I got there." Yeah, he has never been in basketball before.
Drew (12) joined the swim team this year and is doing well. Makes me proud to see him involved in a sport I used to coach for nearly 10 years. The real amazing part is that he's enjoying it!
Lastly, take note of the little holly graphics on our banner this year. I've been trying to make the ipad a useful tool and those little graphics are one example of the usefulness of it. They were drawn on the ipad. It is, however, still more of a fun toy as you can see by the picture here.
We wish you all a very Happy Christmas season and fun-filled 2012!
