Rule of Thirds Examples

Look at the photos below of a sail boat. Notice the first one is very static and boring because everything (the horizon line and the boat) is centered. The second however, which utilizes the rule of thirds, is a much more interesting and dynamic photo.

Notice how the front object in the picture on on the left is centered, leaving the rest to hang off to the side. Using the rule of thirds, the center of interest is placed where two lines of "thirds" intersect, leaving the secondary objects to also fall along the lines of thirds, making a much more pleasing shot.
