Space

An Exploration of 3-D Space

Art Elements are the "parts" of a piece of art. Line, Shape, Volume, Space, Color, Value, and Texture all are elements that artists use to make their work.

The teacher leads students in a discussion of how objects work in space. Parallax is "...the effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions...". Student volunteers stand in front of the room and students are shown how Parallax works by viewing the students through different viewfinders set up around the room. (We can also see parallax in action on our ipad home screens in IOS 7.

Space is discussed in relation to our previous Perspective Project as well.

Students will make a diorama that illustrates the idea of space and parallax. As the teacher hands out the template pages, examples of the diorama are passed around so students can view them. Students are to come up with their own characters/objects for each of the numbered tabs. Colored pencils will be used and their drawings may be inked if time permits.

Finally, we take a day to discuss each student's work and view their dioramas.
