Students are shown a variety of crayon drawings that have a sense of three-dimensionality.
Then they are given a handout with shapes on it. In each shape students are to follow the teacher as he demonstrates, on his large paper taped to the chalk board, how to use crayons to achieve a gradient tone with crayons.
Crayon layering may also be covered after which students are given a chance to shade their own worksheet layering two and three crayon colors. Click here for the teacher example.
Next, students will do the same thing with oil pastels in preparation for their Bug Symmetry drawing.
