Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

    • Students are shown the process of making cartoons and comic books. Images of the cartooning process are shown.

    • A short lesson on cartooning is demonstrated by the teacher on the board as students follow along on their own paper.

    Next, students use what they learned about cartooning to make their own cartoons. They ink the pencil lines and then use watercolor or colored pencils to paint/color their cartoons.
