Students follow along drawing, on their paper, what the teacher draws on the board. We talk about how to make a rectangle into a cube by adding lines. And how to change a rectangle into a cylinder. Or an oval into a cylinder. All these 2-d shapes (rectangle, triangle, hexagon) can be made into 3-d shapes just by adding lines to them.
Next shading is demonstrated. Students practice hatching and cross-hatching on their papers. Students are to shade a rectangle from dark to light on their paper. Then we apply shades to our shapes to make them 3-d.
