This project involves using black glue lines to define areas of color while giving the younger students a way of keeping the watercolor within the lines. The raised glue acts as a boundary between color areas so the watercolor doesn't run from one shape to another.
Students will trace around leaf shapes with a pencil. Then Elmer's Glue mixed with ink is drawn over the pencil lines. The projects are left to dry over night.
Watercolor paints are added during the next session. Warm colors are used for the leaves and Cool colors for the background. Watercolor mixing techniques are demonstrated and practiced on each leaf.
Special notice is taken of the veins of the leaves; scientific principles of nature such as growth and seasons are discussed as well.
