Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 1. Identify the elements of visual art including color, line, shape, texture and space.

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

    • Andy Goldsworthy inspired artwork


    Andy Goldsworthy's artwork is shown and discussed in the classroom. Then students are taken outside to create their own Natural Installations. Photographs are taken of their work and posted on the school website or in the hallways.

    This lesson may be repeated in different seasons to utilize the natural materials unique to each season: Snow and ice in the winter, colored leaves in the fall, greenery and flowers in the spring or summer.
