Inspired by Debbie Clement's Tall Giraffe book and Song:
"Tall giraffe, makes me laugh. Tall giraffe, makes me laugh.
Come along sing this song. Tall giraffe, makes me laugh.
Neck so long, legs so strong. Neck so long, legs so strong.
Tall giraffe, makes me laugh.
Brown and spotted, polka dotted. Brown and spotted, polka dotted.
Tall giraffe, makes me laugh.
Chewing leaves, on top of trees. Chewing leaves, on top of trees.
Tall giraffe, makes me laugh.
Tall and lean, stilt machine. Tall and lean, stilt machine.
Tall giraffe, makes me laugh."
Students trace their sock-covered foot to form the head shape. Triangle shapes are added for ears and small antlers made of circles and rectangles are also added. Then they cut it out to form the completed head shape. Next students trace their arm to form the neck and cut it out. The two shapes are glued together. A strip of brown paper with cuts snipped into it is glued to the back to form the short "mane" that Giraffes have.
The finished shape is adorned with brown spots made with paint-filled fingers. Eyes are added with Sharpie markers.
Finally students help the teacher cut out trees leaves and trunks for our display in the hallway.
