A fun lesson in recycling.
Egg Cartons are marvels of engineering. They protect eggs through a myriad of bumps and falls as they are transported from the farm to the store, and finally to our homes. They are also marvels of recycling because most cardboard egg cartons are now made with 100 percent recycled materials.
We will be recyclers as well when we reuse discarded egg cartons to make funny faces in art class.
Ever notice how the Tuscan Raiders from Star Wars look like they were made from egg cartons?
Sometimes the book, Little Robots by Michael Brownlow is read in class to inspire students with ideas for a variety of robot faces.
Then some real-life examples of how an egg carton can be used to make faces are shown.
Finally, students are given materials and we let their creativity run free to see what they come up with.
After all the faces are finished students will tell about their creation and see what others have to say about them too.
