For this lesson, the book, "If I Ran the Zoo" by Dr. Seuss is read in class (Or a video is played.) as inspiration.
Students are given a piece of paper and asked to think of the most crazy animal that they'd like to see in a zoo.
Crayons are used to draw and color their animal and scissors are used to cut it out. The teacher will help everyone tape their animal to the "Zoo" paper just outside the door. (Just tape it up, don't bother "back rolling" the tape or messing with double stick stuff.)
Students should put their name on the back of their drawing so we can return the animal to the students.
Scissors are in the green tubs on a cart to the left as you're sitting at the desk. Crayons are lower down on the same cart. Two containers of scissors and two trays of crayons should be put on each art-room table. Please take the glue bottles out and leave them on the cart before setting the green containers on the tables. Pencils may be used too but then you've gotta sharpen all of them every couple classes so it's easier just to say, "No pencils". Whatever you want to do is fine.
(If for some reason there is no paper hanging in the hall by the art room, you can simply erase the board and put a large rectangle on it labeled, "Crazy Zoo" and tape the animals there. (Don't erase the class schedule though.)
The schedule for classes is on the board. My first class comes in at 8:15. (Click here for an image of the schedule.)
