Summer Streamers


Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 1. Identify the elements of visual art including Color, line, shape, Form, Value, texture and space.

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

  • 3. Identify the characteristics of visual artworks from a variety of cultures including the contributions of Minnesota American Indian tribes and communities.

  • 4. Create original two- and three- dimensional artworks to express ideas, experiences or stories.

  • 5. Share and describe a personal artwork and reflect on a presentation based on the feedback of others.

    • Pattern is illustrated in class using a rhythmic clapping or stomping or other rhythm. This is tied in to their music lessons over the past couple months as well.

    Students then use their glueing skills to glue various colored streamers onto a green band in a pattern. Next time, after the glue dries, the streamers are fitted to each student's head and stapled so they can wear their summer streamer hats for the rest of the day. Students free draw with crayons while they wait for the teacher fit and staple each of their hats.



    Size: 2 inches by 23 for green band. (cut 12 inch side and have students glue green's together first. Than add streamers.) Streamers 9 inches tall.
