Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 1. Identify the elements of visual art including Color, line, shape, Form, Value, texture and space.

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

  • 3. Identify the characteristics of visual artworks from a variety of cultures including the contributions of Minnesota American Indian tribes and communities.

    • Students are shown how to make little feet out of small (1/2 notecard) tagboard pieces. Using colored pencils, they first draw their feet, color them, then cut them out. A largish drop of glue is added and the puffball put on top.

    Wiggley eyes are glued on as well.

    The project doesn't take very long so it is emphasized that these little pets need to sit quietly and dry before they go home. A half sheet of paper is available for students to draw what they want with colored pencils.
