Ant Houses


Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

    • Images of Ant colonies are shown in class as inspiration.

    Quarter sheets of paper are handed out and the teacher shows how to draw a simple cartoon ant. Students follow along drawing on their paper. Then the teacher asks students to make it again but "Teeny Tiny".

    Next students flip over the small paper and the teacher asks them to draw a line across the top with an ant hill on top of the line. Two ant houses are drawn under the line and tunnels drawn to connect each. An ant baking cookies is drawn in one and a table with two or three little ants at the table. In the other house a chair is drawn with an ant holding a remote control for a TV.
