General art gives you the skills necessary to move on to the advanced Art classes. You’ll get a taste of the three traditional areas of art, Drawing, Painting, and 3D work with Clay. Here’s a list of some of the things you will learn in this class:
- Cartoon drawing techniques.
- Perspective drawing techniques.
- How use shading to draw realistically.
- Clay properties and clay construction methods. (coil, pinch, slab)
- Finishing clay projects with Glazes.
- Paint mixing and blending to form rounded, 3-D shapes.
- Paint layering to create depth and style.
- Performance art techniques/concepts.

Grades are based on a percentage, 90% and up is an A, 80-89% is a B, 70-79% is a C and so on. Students will get an evaluation form for each project that we do. The evaluation form states how the project is graded and how points are distributed between the different elements of the project. Grades are never based on how hard students try. An in-depth discussion of this can be found at: www.lhsart.org/philos.html Cheating is extremely difficult to do in an art class, however, if one is caught copying other's artwork or doing the work for someone else, those students will not recieve credit for that assignment.
