The pen tool is one of the most important drawing tools available on the computer. With it you can make straight lines or curved lines that are very precise. After a short lesson on the pen tool's capabilities and converting anchor points, students may download a picture of a
Dodge Neon (click here) or find a car image on the web that they like.
On a separate layer they are to draw the car as accurately as they can using the tools they know in Illustrator. When it is finished they should have produced a vector illustration that looks as good or better than the original photograph.
This is an intensive assignment that usually takes over a week to complete satisfactorily so the point value has doubled.

Evaluation:
3 points -- Accurate representation of color
5 points -- Professional (no stray points or corners that don't come together)
5 points -- Accuracy (no wheels that are mis-aligned, etc.)
7 points -- Attention to detail (all parts and shades and colors are included)
20 points total.
