Mr. Kulzer

Car Trace

The pen tool is one of the most important drawing tools available on the computer. With it you can make straight lines or curved lines that are very precise. After a short lesson on the pen tool's capabilities and converting anchor points, students may download a picture of a Dodge Neon (click here) or find a car image on the web that they like.

On a separate layer they are to draw the car as accurately as they can using the tools they know in Illustrator. When it is finished they should have produced a vector illustration that looks as good or better than the original photograph.

This is an intensive assignment that usually takes over a week to complete satisfactorily so the point value has doubled. For students who are absent, a set of video tutorials is provided below. (Scroll down)

Evaluation:
3 points -- Accurate representation of color
5 points -- Professional (no stray points or corners that don't come together)
5 points -- Accuracy (no wheels that are mis-aligned, etc.)
7 points -- Attention to detail (all parts and shades and colors are included)
20 points total.
