In order to get the students' creativity flowing we start with a simple paper assignment where students are to construct a large sculpture (12 inches high minimum) using only tag-board cards, scissors and tape.

A Creativity grade is given in this assignment. We don't just want a random bunch of cards stuck together. The challenge is to make something out of the cards. A castle, a house, a car, a representation of the love for their boy/girlfriend, etc. The sculpture must have some meaning to it.

One of the points of this assignment is to get students understanding that they should always use their time in art class to improve their artwork. So nearly half their grade is based on how well they're using class time. During the second quarter when they are largely self directed, they will need to utilize their time wisely. By practicing time management in the first few assignments they will more readily be successful later in the class.

Evaluation:
2 points -- Sturdy and stable
2 points -- 12 inches high minimum
2 points -- Creativity
4 points -- Continuous use of time/Lots of pieces/parts

10 points total.
