Color Blending of Paints

Students follow along with a demonstration of blending paints. Geometric shapes are painted with highlights and shadows to give a sense of three-dimensionality or "volume". The assignment revolves around either making a stained glass window or painting a coloring book page with blended gradients in each "pane" of the coloring book or stained glass window.

Each "pane" should be painted using a tint or shade of a color so that the "pane" looks brighter toward the center. This produces an effect of light shining through the panes and gives a sense of luminosity. After the paint is dry the lines are gone over with a bead of black glue (glue mixed with ink) or sharpie marker to form the "leading" between the panes of "glass".
