Quilt Border
The second mural deals with the theme of healing. A quilt with cultural symbols and words translated into different languages is the image Brad came up with. Here you see the quilt border and texture.
Below the picture is an artist statement about the Quilt mural.
CARING QUILT:
The intent of the second mural is to help create a personal connection for all visitors to the hospital.
This mural will use the theme of a quilt featuring a central globe image to help reinforce the idea of the roots of the family tree illustrated in the first mural and everyone's personal ancestory and geneology. To strengthen this reference, the quilt concept was chosen for it's obvious and inseparable role as a blanket in the caring and healing process. Quilts also have a long history of being generational in nature and have significance in many cultures.
Individual quilt squares will feature both cultural patterns as well as words such as: Family, Healing, Care, and Friend. These words will be translated into dozens of languages. The end result will give the impression of this soft, comforting quilt rendered in a permanent material which so beautifully parallels the mission of a hospital which is to deliver the human and soft side of healing and caring in a professional, permanent institution.
