Proposal for Mural # 1
The theme of "Healing" and "Family" conjured many images. It was difficult to narrow down our focus while still being able to include themes from other cultures and groups.
We decided to go with the theme of a Family Tree for the first mural. Images of family of all types will be included in the frames surrounding the tree.

"Embracing Family through healing"
The overall goal of this project was to help the viewer expand the common but complex and nuanced notions of how we embrace family throughout the healing process. Throughout the healing and recovery process, a patient often relies on a network of support which may extend beyond the traditional understanding of family to include friends, co-workers, medical staff, and others. Additionally, the support and care given and received often deepens and diversifies the relationships and roots within our family structure.
To visually illustrate these themes a mature, broad tree form will be used as a background to reference roots, support, strength, nature, genealogy, network and family structure on one mural. On the second mural, we will be using an ancient looking flattened globe as a subtle background to reference the human family from which we all come in a more global sense while providing some connection for everyone's diverse cultural roots and family heritage.
Over the tree background on the first mural will be placed images that more fully illustrate the expanded notion of a support network and "family" as well as care and healing. These images shall include co-workers, medical staff, traditional family images of young, old, generations and cultural diversity. Care and healing shall be demonstrated as the center image through a pair of sculpted hands embracing anothers' hand.
