Frankenstein's Monster
A 3/4 size study of a monstrous visage.
Another piece I did in school to illustrate a halloween themed project and to show students how to hollow out a complex form.
The finished piece

Other views of the raw clay sculpture.

After thinking about it, I wanted to make this sculpture more useful... So I cut him along the staple line in his forehead and hollowed it out to be used as a candy jar.

The first version didn't emphasize the forehead enough and students kept asking if it was the Hulk.

After enlarging the forehead, it seemed too tall.

After finally getting the forehead right, I added bolts but they looked too big...

The proper sized bolts.

Hollowing out required cutting sections off, then reattaching them after hollowing each section.

See the finished version at the top of this page.
