Fudo

A former student asked me to sculpt Fudo for him and his wife.

In Japanese Buddhism, Fudo Myo-o converts anger into salvation. His furious, glaring face, frightens people into accepting the straight and narrow path of good. He carries "kurikara" or devil-subduing sword (representing wisdom cutting through ignorance). Fudo literally means "immovable" (his faith is immutable). The flames behind him represent the purification of the mind by the burning away of all material desires.
