Step 2. Here I've blocked in the background green. Notice the face sketch is overlapped by the paint in places. The paint I use is opaque so I can paint right over the previous layer. By painting the background first I can lay on the paint for the face without having to worry about a small white halo line around the face where the background and foreground come together.
