Resin Casting

7th Grade Industrial Technology Description/Standards

  • 1. Demonstrate knowledge of fractions as used in measurements.

    • Students are introduced to resin casting through a couple videos of production resin casting and fiberglass manufacturing:
    Casting a 3-d Printed part
    Embedding an object in resin

    The teacher demonstrates how to mix resin with catalyst. (6 drops of catalyst with 1 tablespoon of resin.) Mold release is used and Neatness is emphasized in how they pour the resin and clean up.

    How to embed objects is also discussed and demonstrated.

    After the resin is cured, students will pop out their objects and clean them up by filing the sharp edges.

    Evaluation:

    4 points -- Neatness (no drips and mess as student mixes and pours)
    3 points -- Followed directions/mixed properly
    3 points -- Filed/sanded to a nice rounded smooth edge
    10 Points total
