Intro to Drafting - Tools and grid drawing

Examples of blueprints and technical drawings are shown in class.

The teacher demonstrates how to use a T-Square and Triangle with our drafting boards to draw straight and angled lines. Taping paper down is covered as well as how to keep constant pressure on the square and triangle while drawing. Students then take some time to practice by measuring out and drawing perfect squares and other shapes. Emphasis is put on drawing light lines.

The first assignment is for students to make a grid. Students measure out twenty quarter inch marks at the left or right side of their paper and make 20 horizontal lines. After that they measure out 20 marks at the bottom or top of their paper and make 20 vertical lines. After their grid is made, they may take colored pencils and color patterns or a design in their grid.

Evaluation: 3 points -- Neatness of lines
3 points -- Accuracy of measurements
3 points -- Nicely colored design
1 point -- Respectful use of materials and tools
