    Dynamic Cartoon bodies

Geometric construction of 10 Cartoon bodies

Students are shown how professional animators use geometric shapes in their drawings through a few examples: (1) (2) (3)

After a brief demonstration on cartoon proportions and drawing cartoon bodies, students are given 4 body "templates" made up of multiple shapes. (Click here for a printable version.)

A sheet with complete cartoon characters with a variety of body styles is available here.

Students are to use those templates to create 5 cartoon characters. Then they are to make up 5 of their own shape combinations and turn those into new characters of their own design.

Finished page should include the characters and small "thumbnails" of the geometric shapes used in constructing the characters.

    Evaluation:
5 points -- Five expressive characters using given geometric constructions

The 5 original characters based on student geometric constructions are evaluated on the following:
    2 points -- Originality/Creativity
2 points -- Poses express personality
1 point -- Neat Clean finished layout
