Minnesota 9-12 Visual Art Standards

  • 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of the arts area.
  • 1A. Analyze how the elements of visual art including color, line, shape, value, form, texture and space; and principles such as repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast and balance are combined to communicate meaning in the creation of, presentation of, or response to visual artworks.

  • 1b. Evaluate how the principles of visual art such as repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast and balance are used in the creation of, presentation of, or response to visual artworks.

    • Now that students have designed their Drink Logo, the next step is to design a label for their drink.

    Students are shown some label designs as inspiration. Emphasis is put on Big bold graphics and how the designers make the bottles work from nearly any angle.

    Students might want to sketch out a rough design then trace it onto good paper for the finished label. Some parts can be printed from a computer, cut to fit and attached to their label.

    Students should design a label that wraps around the drink container they choose. The label must include the following:

  • Color somewhere on the design
  • The student's Drink Logo design from the last project
  • Drink Title
  • Drink description
  • Nutrition info
  • Barcode
  • Ingredients

    • Evaluation:
    4 points -- includes all bullet points above
    3 points -- Eye Catching and practical design
    3 points -- Label attached nicely to bottle or can
