Geometric Wood Design

As inspiration, students are shown a variety of simple geometric designs that would be suitable for this project.

Students will paint on a wood block and distress or antique it to make it look old and weathered.

If compasses are available, lessons in constructing geometric shapes and designs is illustrated. Printable instructions for a Square, Octagon, and Pentagon are available.

Students develop 4 different geometric designs on paper first. Sample geometric construction done in class can be found here.)The best two will be transferred to the wood block, one on the front and one on the back. Students will water down paint so as to stain the wood. When it is dry, sand paper is used to create an antiqued/distressed look.

Evaluation:
4 points -- 4 designs on paper shaded or colored.
2 points -- Complexity of designs used.
4 points -- Nicely painted and distressed

10 points total.
